Lang) that features a collection of music from NBC's hit drama "Crossing Jordan." The album features new recordings from a cross-section of contemporary recording artists such as Lucinda Williams, Cassandra Wilson and Alison Krauss. Also on the album are two songs from "Crossing Jordan" star Jill Hennessy, who makes her musical debut performing songs written by Bob Dylan and Tom Waits. "Music From The NBC Television Series Crossing Jordan" is currently available at shopnbc.com and will be in stores starting Tuesday, April 1. T Bone Burnett serves as executive producer, and Street as producer, on the album. Academy Award-winners Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman ("Purple Rain," "Dangerous Minds") scored the album and wrote and performed "Crossing Jordan"'s theme music. The idea for the soundtrack originated with "Crossing Jordan" Executive Producers Tim Kring and Allan Arkush's innovative method of utilizing music within the show to capture the intense mood of the series, often incorporating contemporary artists to cover or even reinterpret classic hits. "The only thing more enjoyable than choosing music for 'Crossing Jordan' was making this CD," said Allan Arkush, co-Executive Producer for "Crossing Jordan." "It is a record collector's dream come true, working with T Bone Burnett, talking about our favorite songs and determining the best artists to contribute to this unique album. We approached the art of creating a soundtrack very differently, choosing artists to re-record classic hits that would speak to fans of 'Crossing Jordan' and music lovers alike." T Bone Burnett has his own version of the creative process that led to Music From The NBC Television Series Crossing Jordan. "Allan Arkush did light shows at the Fillmore East in the 60s. He directed 'Rock 'n' Roll High School.' Both Allan and Tim Kring are very involved in music," says Burnett. "They wanted to use original recordings of songs from a certain place to help tell the story. In the process, they, and Craig Street, came up with an album of smart new interpretations of what may now be called, I think, standards, by an extraordinary group of artists." "This album brings together some of the best artists and producers in the business in a way never done before, reflective of the creative and eclectic use of music in the show" says Kim Niemi, Senior Vice President, Video, Music and Product Development, NBC Enterprises.
