As reported in the December issue of Down Beat, the six-CD box set Miles Davis Quintet 1965-'68The Complete Studio Recordings easily outdistanced the nearest competition in winning the Reissue of the Year award in the magazine's 63rd Annual Readers Poll ... In the same issue another Legacy release, Jimmy Guiffre's Free Fall, recorded in 1962, was awarded a rare five-star rating by John Corbett, who wrote that in addition to its "enormous historicalsignificance" the disc is "one of the most sus, illuminating records of chamber jazz ever made"
(the latest on Columbia/Legacy)

... The next major Legacy box set will be the complete Miles Davis-John Coltrane Columbia recordings, an eight-CD package (spanning the years 1955 to 1961) that's slated to be issued this spring ... More Miles reissues on tap for later in 1999 include multi-disc boxes based around the albums In a Silent Way and A Tribute to Jack Johnson, two very distinctive approaches to electric jazz from one of its major pioneers.
