Destiny's Child
Director: Darren Grant

The video concept for Destiny's Child third release off of their debut album will definitely take the girls to a whole new level highlighting their versatility as performers even further. For this video the girls' main performance will be in environments that are constantly changing. Our main goal is to take the look of this video to the next level while highlighting the dynamic stage presence of Destiny's Child. Additionally, since the song is viewed as the answer to Usher's single, "You Make Me Wanna..." Usher will be cameo'd throughout the video in the story-line vignettes. The story will be told through a series of separate pictures seen through a toy viewfinder.

OPENING SHOT
The video will open with Jermaine DuPri walking down a long narrow aisle in what would appear to be a toy store. We see Jermaine's attention being drawn to a viewfinder that's laying on the floor in the aisle. As he bends over to pick it up, he'll notice a disk that reads... "DESTINY'S CHILD." Jermaine's reaction is somewhat animated, his curiosity has definitely been aroused, (he's like, "hmmm"), as we see Jermaine pop in the disk and peer into the eye-slots. The beat of the song drops and the first image in the viewfinder comes into focus.

The video will be seen as a glimpse into what Jermaine is looking at in the viewfinder, a fantasy world that is filled with abstractions and doesn't necessarily have to follow any particular guidelines. As we journey with Jermaine, we notice that once we stop in on an image, the camera will push in on that image (to fill the screen), and explore the action that is featured in the individual set-ups. What is unique about this concept is that Beyonce, Kellie, LaToya, and Latavia will each perform (in character) within individual performance spaces, where their individuality will be highlighted. For example, Beyonce's individual set-up can feature her performing in character as the "mermaid" that she has wanted to be, and so on for Kellie, Latavia, and LaToya.

As Jermaine clicks the "finder" to change images, the individual picture in view will at first be frozen and then the images will come to life to begin either their action or performances. Right before Jermaine clicks to the next image the image will freeze back up.

PERFORMANCES
During the bridge the girls will be seen performing together in an abstract, almost surreal world, as they perform in tight leather outfits with wild hairstyles. The girls will stand in the foreground of a room that is completely filled with on-looking eyes. The eyes will stand alone as the backdrop and will be different in size and shape.

In another shot through the viewfinder the girls will be seen performing a huge choreographed dance routine, complete with dancers wearing unique outfits. This routine, although choreographed, will have a more natural fun look to it, a less contrived routine than what we've seen in the past.

As Jermaine's part in the song is heard, Jermaine will see himself jump into view (through effects). This image startles "the Jermaine" that is peering through the viewfinder, as eh pulls his eyes back from the toy for a moment (what!!!!!) only to return to looking through the "finder" as he watches himself perform.

THE STORYLINE/VIGNETTES
Throughout the video Usher will also be featured in vignettes as Jermaine is looking through the "finder." The Usher character will be seen kickin' it with a couple of girls following what the lyrics of the song suggest. In one of the set-ups Usher can also appear to be looking for something, or even getting busted by the girlfriend (implied in the song) and (through effects), he'll be seen jumping from one scene to the next as Jermaine clicks images. These vignettes will move quickly and be somewhat abstract.

LOOK AND STYLE
The look of the video will definitely be seen as cutting edge, and the ide unique in the fact that it's never been seen before. Through this video will allow the girls to express their individuality in a playful, less serious, almost fantasy-like world. They will be able to have fun with this video and still be seen as teen divas. Additionally, to add to the authenticity of the video, the pictures/images will be seen rotating in a circular fashion, as if rotating through an actual viewfinder (through post-production effects). This video will be shot in 35mm color film and very special attention will be paid to wardrobe and styling, as they will play an integral role in the overall look of the video.
