WISE GUY
Joe Pesci
Director: Jim Yukich
Before we get into it, keep in mind that this is just a rough start. I've taken the liberty of adding a
couple other characters and using some questionable dialogue. And although the storyline leans
to the literal, the clip would be shot with a very stylistic look. When we find out who may
participate as extras, we can tailor the words.
As the song begins, an Eldorado comes flying down the street. As the car quickly comes to a
stop in front of a nondescript neighborhood bar/restaurant, the driver jumps out, runs around and
opens the passenger door. Joe takes a step out of the car, looks around, and then, before heading
into the bar, greets some locals on the corner.
Verse One begins as we follow Joe into the bar, telling his story as he works the room. He
flashes his piece, he's fondled by the 2 "supermodels," he passes the patrons at the bar that are all
watching a fight on TV. Then he enters the backroom, where he joins the real heavies. As he
sits down to eat pasta with his buddies, we see 2 girls in the corner of the room (a la the singers
in There's Something About Mary) singing the "lovely day..." bit. Joe continues to eat as he
sings the chorus.
We then "loop" the instrumental section from the fade out between the verses, allowing us to add
some dialogue. The sound of a car pulling up outside overlaps the music. The car is pounding
out the loud thumping of rap music (actually Joe's instrumental section). It begins to annoy the
guys.
JOE
What the fuck is that?
Wise Guy Bobby looks out the window.
BOBBY
It's some punks outside, Joey. I'll take care of it.
Wise Guy Harvey looks up from the table, delicately wiping his mouth with a napkin.
HARVEY
No, come on, sit down, it's not worth wasting a good meal.
Joe opens the back door and yells out.
JOE
Hey, shut that friggin' thing off.
The Punks on the street answer.
PUNKS
Who the fuck are you?
Joe is now getting mad. He walks out toward the punks singing Verse Two, his buddies coming
up from behind. By the middle of the verse he has his finger in the face of the bad-ass that gave
him shit ("'cause I'm a better man than you'll ever be..."). During the chorus, Joe beats the shit
out of the Punk as his buddies look on, occasionally taking out the punk's reinforcements. A
great action sequence. All this happens as our same 2 singers belt out the chorus, "lovely day..."
as if oblivious to the action.
Verse Three finds Joe seated in a courtroom as the defendant. We shoot some great courtroom
angles, do a tracking shot down the jury (it would be cool if we had every bad guy character
actor/actress as part of the jury) and find Joe up on the witness stand ("her mother didn't like
me...") as the judge and jury look on.
During the chorus, we find our singers part of the jury. Joe is found innocent and leaves the
courtroom through a crowd of reporters. A camera flash/match cuts to a photo taken at the
"Welcome Home Joe" party at the bar. There's a girl in a cake, and all his buddies are there,
maybe even the mayor, celebrating.
