GOTTA BE (REMIX)
Jagged Edge
Director: Chris Robinson
This video will showcase Jagged Edge in 2 lights. First, as a very polished group whose music
and performance can bring a crowd to its knees. Secondly, as young men, who know how to
have fun and party. This clip will concentrate primarily on performance, with a very loose
storyline.
IT GOES DOWN LIKE THIS...
As the video opens, we see a star-studded event taking place at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.
Searchlights pierce the sky and a throng of phat vehicles jockey for position on Peachtree. We
see mad people going into the party. Ghetto superstars mix with celebrities -- this is the party to
be at. Paparazzi lights are flickering everywhere while security guards hold back the crowd for
Jermaine Dupri and Da Brat to enter the party.
We see Jagged Edge arrive on the scene in two black Range Rovers with chrome dipped rims.
They get out of their vehicles and try to get into the party, but the doors close as the security
guards let the last stars in. Jagged Edge is dressed in street gear -- jeans, sneakers. Although
Jagged Edge belongs in the party, they are caught on the outside with all the other people.
Instead of beefing with the guards, they decide to start their own party outside. This is where we
see our first performance.
Jagged Edge is grooving so hard that the outside of the party is doper than the inside. They
perform a routine as they sing a la New Edition style back in the day. The crowd outside is
grooving and bouncing to the sounds of Gotta Be.
We see the doors of the Theater start to open as the people inside start to wonder what they are
missing outside. We start to see celebrities pour out of the club and joint eh party going on in the
parking lot.
At this point, we will cut away to a more art directed background, still outside. We will
construct a large wall of jagged steel, 15 feet high and 30 feet long. The wall will have uneven
shards of steel sticking out from all angles. It will have unfinished edges and torch marks to give
it a dangerous/industrial look. This will be ill. This set will have a very definitive look that
takes Jagged Edge away from their super smooth R&B vibe. My goal is to break up the strict
uniformity of the group and let each individual's personality shine through.
The Party is off the hook. We see people grooving and talking. People file out of the club to
join the illest party in Atlanta. As the party reaches its peak, we see Jagged Edge all come
together in front of the steel background. The wall opens up and their clothes magically change
into the matching suits we are used to seeing. The group looks at each other, turns, and walks
into darkness. The wall closes behind them. I think that bringing them back to the matching
suits a la Gotta Be will accent just how different they look from when they first arrived.
My goal is to create a very clean pristine negative. Although this is primarily an exterior shoot, I
want our pictures to be beautiful. We will shoot with super 35mm film for a more cinematic
quality. This concept takes Jagged Edge closer to the street, while keeping their image and
persona intact.
Thanks for the opportunity to write for the single. I look forward to any input from the group or
So So Def/Columbia. Good luck with the single. One.
