DJ RAP
Title: "Good To Be Alive"
Concept by Jeff Richter

The video will present DJ Rap in a series of visual images that creates the same feeling one gets when listening to the music of The Learning Curve. Along with the beautiful experimental groundbreaking photographic techniques, we will use the latest computer generated imagery and set design to capture the essence of DJ Rap and her music. Images that begin to appear normal at first will be constantly transformed into something else by layering computer effects and imagery. We will create a fantasy landscape for the viewer to experience the spiritual consciousness of Good To B Alive.

We open on a dark frame. Small computer generated globes of colored light begin to float toward the camera. Reds, blues, greens and yellows float toward us as we hear the rising tones of the strings. On the first lyrics we see DJ Rap floating into our frame. She's beautiful and radiant as she slowly falls away from us. She appears as if she is under water with her hair floating, white sheer material clinging to her sensuous body, and small ripples of light glancing off her glowing face. (See reference 1) This performance set up will be a constant throughout the video, with her in this floating environment placed within other surreal environments.

She sings the first part of the song slowly falling away from us and spinning ever so slowly. One by one more identical images of her appear to slowly drift towards the infinite spaces of our psychedelic environment. As she finishes the intro. of the song, the images begin to disintegrate into colored particles of light. These particles float about the screen and on the downbeat; they whoosh toward the camera, taking us into the first environment of out fantasy landscape.

The first landscape we visit on our surreal journey is disorienting: a series of parallel cut-outs in rippling organic curves that recede into the distance like a set of Chinese moon windows on acid. (See reference 2) Looking through the trachea like tube of the room, space shifts from blue to magenta, to pink, orange and yellow, and back again. DJ Rap appears by herself. wandering the space looking for a way out. She sings the verse walking through pools of light within this first environment. These pools of light act like projection images, bathing her in light, color, and shapes. (See reference 3) Dressed stylishly, but simply, our attention is focused on DJ Rap's face and powerful performance. As we transition to the middle of the first chorus, the entire image begins to once again transition to computer generated globes of light. The colored lights blast by us and take us to another place.

The song breaks down to the first "I'd love to love you. ." and we once again see DJ Rap in a floating performance environment that this time consists of images similar to those in the trippy sequence from the movie Contact. We are being taken on a computer enhanced psychedelic journey and DJ Rap is our guide to pure bliss. She spins down away from us and the computer generated imagery transitions to our new fantasy landscape. She finishes out the repeated lines reclined in a red round chair. The camera pulls out as she signs the lines of the song and the entire image becomes a kaleidoscope image. DJ Rap's image multiplies over and over again, finally becoming one image as she gets up from the round chair for the next verse. Everything we see in this new environment is red, including DJ Rap. (See reference 4)

This is a room with white ring lights on the walls and ceiling. People are facing each other sitting on red furniture and you can't tell what color their clothing is because everything is bathed in shadowless scarlet light punctuated with slippery white highlights. As DJ Rap wanders throughout the room we wonder what these people are thinking as they sit staring at one another in silence, being absorbed and haunted by the song. The deep red light gets under the skin of the small group of people transforming them into translucent, luminous shells. We begin to notice that all of the action in this environment, including DJ Rap, is in sensual slow motion.

As the next chorus begin, the slick red upholstery, which is backlit in sections, begins to change color with every beat of the song. Projections emerge like larva from the walls, floor, and ceiling, bathing the entire space in psychedelic imagery. We zoom into DJ Rap's eyes as the world around her begins to transform once again. We see her body floating down a hallway covered in mirrors as lights flash all around us and at us. The viewer starts to feel that familiar feeling of disorientation that one gets from a good trip at a spiritual Rave party. The floors and ceiling begin to merge with the walls and ceiling. Our state of euphoria is enhanced when all the images we are seeing on screen begin to break apart into the familiar globules of colored light that stated the video for us. These lights take us to our final performance space; the ultimate club-like setting.

The ultimate setting for DJ Rap's final performance is a room that truly takes the viewer to another state of being. (See reference 5) The polished floor reflects the multi colored lights of the ceiling. It creates a space that makes it seem as though you are diving into a colored pool. Chandeliers dangle bunches of glistening, red and yellow globes that you feel ought to pop like berries if you squeezed them.

A colored swirl of lights swirl around a club set, creating a crowd as it goes. The room is filled with people of all races, all here for the groove. The magical force finally makes its way to the front on the room to create the beautiful DJ Rap. She is now truly in her natural environment. Her wardrobe to this point has been more subdued to blend with the environments, but now she forms in something much more daring and exciting. Obviously specifics of her wardrobe would be worked out with all the parties involved.

She performs as the crowd pluses sensuously to the hypnotic beat. The computer-generated lights begin to whisp around the set invading every spot. DJ Rap's close up shots glow with her gorgeousness. The walls and ceiling of the set begin to ooze with fluffy foam that emerses the crowd in it. (See reference 6-12) The revelers are covered from head to toe, dancing beneath the foam like one of the famous Ibiza foam parties. We cut back to DJ Rap and she begins to float above the crowd as the song begins to head for the ending.

A glow begins to emit from DJ Rap's body as she rises above the masses of glistening bodies. The light begins to change color as rapidly as the people begin to disintegrate into a rainbow storm of CGI particles. The particles engulf DJ Rap and we zoom into her eyes once more.

For the final repeating "I'd love to love you. . ." we pull back out of her eyes and she is falling, like in the beginning of the video. She appears to be underwater again in the way her hair floats and the material of her covering floats in mid air. The CGI particles multiply and multiply as the song fades away into the sparse sounds of the string section. Our final image is that of multiples of colors covering the disappearing figure of DJ Rap as she floats away to a higher state of consciousness.
