GET BACK
Zebrahead
Director: Liam Lynch
The video begins with an opening shot ascending up the side of an apartment building as the
guitar intro begins. As it reaches the top, the shot immediately moves to the interior of the room,
where Zebrahead is playing. A close-up follows on the lyrics, "Here comes the boom." The
band is rocking hard in their own practice space, a comfortable and sparsely decorated area on
the top floor of the apartment building. The edit takes you to outside the practice space door,
where the landlord bangs on the door with an eviction notice or keys in hand. He is making
gestures about the noise. Shots of the band continue until the guitar breakdown midway through
the first verse, at which point the floor beneath them begins to give way. A quick edit takes you
to the apartment below, where plaster from the ceiling begins to fall on a group of Japanese
tourists taking pictures of a: (Zebrahead CD? A few Japanese playing Twister? A person in a
cheap robot suit? A piece of artwork on a pedestal...a small statue?). The tourists are all dressed
similarly, each sporting some sort of camera around their necks. The shot then returns to
Zebrahead for the second half of the first verse. During this portion of the video, the stability of
the floor gradually worsens as more of the tourists below are becoming aware that something
major is about to happen. The Landlord is sorting through his giant wad of keys trying to enter
the room.
Just as the band reaches the chorus, the floor finally gives way from all the severe rocking. Shots
of the band descending into the apartment below follow. As they land, the attention of the
Japanese tourists is suddenly diverted from their original interest. They turn their cameras to the
band, taking pictures incessantly as flash bulbs fire the entire time. At this point, the landlord
enters the room and sees the band has fallen through his floor. The shot would return to the
band, then to the landlord, who is now seen racing down the staircase to the floor below. The
shot returns to the tourists, who are now very interested in the band, moving closer to the band
members to get better pictures. The band members smile and react for the cameras, the "thumb
trick" is performed and they applaud. Another shot of the band comes from the hole in the
ceiling that they created. These shots of the band with the tourists continue through the first
chorus into the second verse, occasionally returning to shots of the landlord, now banging on the
door of the new apartment. As the second verse ends, the floor beneath the band begins to crack
under the intense music. The cracking becomes exaggerated during the guitar breakdown that
leads to the second chorus, and finally gives way as the second chorus begins. As shot from
below shows the tourists looking over the edge, still snapping pictures as the band plays below.
The band looks around at their new surroundings, seeing only a sheep (or a few sheep) with
bows, necklaces, and other unusual accessories. Just as they begin to comprehend their
surroundings, the floor gives way again, taking them from the graces of the sheep into a room of
18-year-old girls in the midst of a sleepover. They love that the band is in their bedroom and
begin dancing, giggling or throwing a pillow fight with each other. The landlord is seen again,
racing down the stairs...growing a bit tired...to catch those darn Zebrahead boys. By the time he
gets the girls' room open, the band has dropped again, crashing through the floor. We see shots
with the camera rumbling and debris. There will be mixed shots from standing on the platform
with the band and riding with them as they enter the new situation, to outside the building seeing
them drop below ground level. A few short slow-motion shots of falling, mixed with other short
cuts of people's reactions and close-ups of the ceiling coming down.
The landlord peers down through the hole in the floor enraged by the millions of dollars of
damage they have nonchalantly done. We see now that the band has landed in the basement of
the building. There is a rave going on, most likely illegally. It is dark, except for strobes, and
some whirling disco lights over the crowd's heads. The band now stands amongst the party
people, on four layers of ceilings, like an island...or a small stage. The band continues playing
on for the party. The landlord arrives outside the door, but a huge Hell's Angel stands in the
doorway as a bouncer (motorcycle friend with tattoos?). He blocks the landlord from entering as
he yells, pointing up at the holes in the ceiling. The Hell's Angel just stares him down. The band
continues playing as the crowd jumps and dances wildly. Everyone's having a good time as we
see that the girls and the tourists have also joined the party crowd.
This ending is still undecided. I would like to use their motorcycle friend in some way,
especially if he can wear whatever he wears when he jumps cars. The rooms will be different
bright colors and kept simple. The shots will have lots of action and the picture will be "blown
out" in appearance, meaning that there will be a sort of graininess and brightness with the colors
enhanced. The effect moments will look quite movie-like in appearance, due to the top quality of
the effects team. These guys are serious. Equally, we plan on having one of the best Directors of
Photography to capture this and get the proper type of lighting for the effect that will be added
later in online. Groovy, let me know what you think.
