COME DOWN
2/21/97
Treatment: Marcos Siega/Notorious Pictures
This will be a beautiful and surreal clip that will feature a unique TOAD THE WET SPROCKET performance.
Open in a dark, cool looking space. An MC or host walks onto the stage, pulls down three screens and walks off. People in the club start taking their seats. The lights go down. We hear the sounds of a projector running, see the reels of film turning, beams of light shoot across the smoky room, and the screens light up with colored film leader and countdown.
Glen walks out to a microphone at center stage. The screens are staggered and positioned behind him in place of the other band members. (Todd, Dean,
and Randy)
These band members will each be filmed separately, performing against vibrantly colored backdrops. The individual performances will vary in style and composition. These images will then be projected onto the screens behind and around Glen. The projectors will be sync locked so the entire band, in the form of these projected images, and Glen on stage, will appear to be playing together.
Each will be shot at various angles, so
that Glen could be standing in a medium shot next time to an extreme close-up of Todd while on another screen the camera circles around Randy or Dean. This performance sequence will showcase the band as a whole while featuring each band member, individually, in a truly unique and surreal way.
This video will have an incredible look. It will be shot entirely in color. As Glen performs he steps in front of the screens, the images partially project onto him, serving as a key light. One streak of hard light crashes down onto the microphone, adding a dramatic element that will contrast with the light of the projected images. The images on the screen illuminate the audience with a cool glow. The colors in the room will be de-saturated with a deep contrast, creating the surreal atmosphere of the clip.
Portrait like shots of the audience reveals tableau images of people from all walks of life (a waitress serving drinks, a beautiful girl, a disheveled businessman, a woman wearing too much make up-up, a young couple toasting, etc.) as if frozen in time. The stillness of the audience contrasts the motionless bodies silhouetted against the moving images of the projected band members.
The camera searches and finds each person watching the performance, close-ups of these people reveal them mouthing small lines of the lyrics as if they where a reflection of their thoughts. There is something touching yet eerie about these people. As the waitress pours a drink, her figure slowly vanishes then reappears at another table. A locked off camera, creates a passage of time, and reveals an ever changing audience, the people come and go.
As the track builds to a conclusion the projections go out. The room becomes black except for Glen who is illuminated by the one streak of hard light falling on the microphone. The camera slowly pushes in on a close up as the track begins to fade.
The song ends. The lights come up and we reveal the singer standing alone in an empty room.
