DESTINY'S CHILD
Title: "Bug A Boo"
Concept by Darren Grant
"Bug a Boo" takes us on a wild ride with the talented girls we know as Destiny's
Child. We follow them over the course of a day as they try to shake four pesky
guys, better known as "Bug a Boos".
It's a busy Saturday afternoon and we see a series of shots that establish our
surroundings: kids hanging out, fat rides, and other miscellaneous activity.
We see Beyonce, LaToya, LaTavia and Kelly hiding in a doorway slightly out of
breath; one of them sticks a compact mirror out to see if the coast is clear,
Beyonce says "I think we lost 'em. . .: (or something to that effect), as they
all look around and slowly come out of hiding. Just as the first verse begins
they round the corner and confidently stroll down the sidewalk looking beautiful,
down to earth and at the top of their game. We see a variety of performance
shots and different cut-aways on the street. At one point Kelly is tired of her
pager going off so she throws it over her shoulder and it lands in a near by
trash can. Reflections in glass, images on storefront TV's and the perspective
onlookers are just a few of the ways that we'll capture their performance. There
will also be a more controlled (stationary) beauty performance.
Later that day the same pesky guys from earlier are still tryin' to sweat. We
see the guys in a convertible driving backwards (in the direction the girls are
walking) puttin' down their hardest mack. Annoyed by these "Bug a Boos" they
decide to hang a U-turn and quickly head the other way. . . the chase is on.
Looking for a place to hide the girls slip into the back door of a non-descript
building, we pull back for a wider shot and reveal a sign above the door that
says BOYS LOCKER ROOM". The girls are quite surprised when they discover where
they are. We see a series of comical moments as they accidentally stumble upon
half-dressed guys in different situations. Some of the things we'll see are the
following: guy in the shower that accidentally drops his soap as they pass by,
guys standing around in towels telling stories about their night before, someone
doing pull-ups, etc. The girls quickly make their way through the locker room
and into the hallway where they see majorette uniforms hanging on a rack. They
look at each other then reach for the outfits. . .
We transition to a huge shot of a marching band on the field, at half-time, in a
closer shot we see that Wyclef is our Bandleader. Wyclef blows his whistle and
the band goes into full swing; fireworks shoot up and the place goes wild. Upon
closer examination we see that the girls are part of the band as well. . .
better yet they're the Majorettes in full uniform and everything.
The opening drum sequence is wicked as the girls march in unison to the music and
the fans go crazy. But once again our "Bug a Boos" from earlier pop up on the
scene. The pesky guys try to scramble down from the stands but security won't
let them onto the field. With their cover blown and nowhere to go the girls are
caught in a jam. . . "Hey Clef haven't seen you in a while. . ." Wyclef stops
marching and waves his marching staff into the air as we magically transition to
a cool Latin club.
In the club young kids hang out and Destiny's Child does the illest moves we've
seen yet. The girls wear racy Latin inspired outfits and shock the crowd with
their seductive moves.
In a similar set-up Cleff also does his rhyme. We take full advantage of
Wyclef's on screen charm as he continues to rock the party. During these
performances we'll see cut-away shots of sexy dancing and ill Latin moves, as
well as the girls (Destiny's Child) just kickin' it with their own cute guy.
This scene is very youthful and urban as our video winds down.
At the end of our Latin remix we'll see a series of performance shots from
previous set-ups: street performance, marching band sequence and the Latin party.
As our video comes to a close we see the girls at a pay phone as our four pesky
guys from earlier roll up on the scene. The girls can't believe it as they stand
there laughing. . . there's something to be said for persistence as they give in
and jump in the car. We fade to black as they all drive away. . .
The video will be shot on 35mm film and special attention will be paid to
make-up, hair and wardrobe styling.
