WET RELEASES NEW TRACK “SOFTENS” FROM FORTHCOMING SOPHOMORE ALBUM

Today Wet has unveiled their new track “Softens” from their forthcoming sophomore album. “Softens” is available on all digital formats – listen here.

Written by Kelly Zutrau and Joseph Valle of Wet and produced by Zutrau and Valle with Andrew Sarlo, “Softens” was created during a time that Wet has described as personally challenging.

Says Kelly: “Sometime last winter I was having a hard time on a personal level while the world also seemed like it was in a collectively dark place. I was just feeling like shit and listening to the radio one night while all of these horrible news stories were playing and then I heard this phrase ‘Where Beauty Softens Your Grief.’ It turned out to be a slogan for a funeral home in Harlem. And something about those words and the story behind it really stuck with me. I found that idea so comforting, someone making a place to soften the sometimes harsh reality of being a human.”
Regarding the creation of “Softens,” Kelly also added: “When I started writing I really wanted this song to be able to ‘soften’ my own reality at that moment and I was hoping it could do that for people who would listen later. I wanted to create a world for a few minutes that would be a nice place to be. I think that message in the lyrics is really supported by the instrumentation on this one. The production work Joe did for this song is my favorite thing he’s ever done, the outro with all of these interlocking piano melodies and huge drums, that two minutes is the emotional peak of the album.”

“Softens” follows on the heels of Wet’s track “There’s a Reason,” which was the first offering from their forthcoming sophomore album. The lovelorn song finds Kelly acting on her gut feelings and doing what works, but also figuring out the where and the why. “There’s a Reason” debuted to positive press reception, with Fader noting that it “…sounds like what happens when someone leaves their comfort zone.”

Wet will embark on a headline tour across North America to preview new music. The 13-city run kicks off in Philadelphia on May 15 and includes stops in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles – see full tour routing below. Tickets are on sale now, with multiple markets having already sold out. Fans should please visit http://wet.band/ for more information.

Wet is recognized for their deeply-hued emotional pop, well documented by the New York Times, Spin, and NPR among many others. Rolling Stone noted that Wet “set themselves apart with music that combines the elegant ache of Nineties R&B with the raw honesty of indie pop…” Crediting Wet’s confessional lyrical style, their 2016 debut album Don’t You was embraced by critics and music fans alike. Their sophomore album will be released later this year.
